If we as Christians would simply obey the “love command” that Jesus gave us in John 13, it would solve over half the problems which exist in our churches today. It is the will of God that we “love one another”. This means, we should live, work, play, and worship together in harmony. Here is what Jesus said, "A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another, as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another." (John 13:34-35)
Love can fade and even fail when we offend or irritate others resulting in misunderstandings or even disagreements. In Matthew 18:15-17 Jesus gives His formula for solving what I call “person-to-person problems”. The following are the words of Jesus: “Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. But if he will not hear you, take with you one or two more, that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.” Just imagine how better our relationships would be if we would follow the simple plan.
Here are a few reasons (backed by scripture) why we should never let differences come between one another:
1. To maintain peace in the body of Christ (Eph. 4:1-3)
2. So satan can’t gain an advantage over us (2 Cor. 2:10-11)
3. To restore a fallen brother (Gal. 6:1)
I earnestly want our church to be filled with the Spirit and be a church that exemplifies the love of Christ toward one another. If we will hold true to God’s Word, follow His blueprint for love and problem resolution, then FOTH will remain and continue to grow as a church in love with one another, with others, and more important with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let the love of Jesus shine through your words and actions. During this Valentine’s month let’s make a special effort to share the love of Christ with everyone we meet.
